Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played the role. The actress did not go on to explore acting as a profession until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were afraid of the negative effects that stress could have. Perry said she felt timid to perform at the age of 16, but she began doing shows at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer from Boston University. Perry following her graduation from Boston University, relocated into New York in search of TV roles. Her small part was on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homelessness brought her back to California for theater roles. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. In 2015, she starred together with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning Drama Anna Christie. It is part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC thriller The Family in 2016. Perry was also featured in a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal with her father. The same year, she played a young character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother as a young version. Despite having a family connection to the character, she was offered the role via an audition.
